Kickstart Your Journey To a Healthier You

Doesn’t it feel like a struggle to get every one of our responsibilities done some days? Between giving it all we got at work, to having a social life, it can feel as if there is never enough time for everything - let alone making healthy choices. You gotta wonder how some girls seem to balance a booming career, a social life and a regular workout routine, while managing to have a vibrant, nutritious and delicious breakfast that is worthy of a morning Instagram. #goals

But, *newsflash,* you can have this life too. It’s called prioritizing yourself, your health and your fitness. With National Women’s Health & Fitness Day just passing us (September 28th), there’s no better time to acknowledge the importance of regular exercise and healthy living, and kickstart the journey to a healthier you.

Here I’m giving you four tips on how you can begin. And, if that isn't enough, I have a special personal trainer providing her insight to give you that little extra push you need. After all, isn't that what trainers are for? 1, 2, 3.. let's go!

  • Step out of your comfort zone and try something new. Have you always wanted to incorporate strength training into your exercise routine but didn't know where to start? Thought about SoulCycle or kickboxing, but you were too nervous to sign up for a class? Changing up your work-outs is *actually* a great way to shock your body and boost your overall health.
  • Phone a friend! Working out with a partner has been proven to improve mental well-being, make exercise more fun and even increase weight loss results, according to a recent study from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. So call up a friend and get movin’! Even just going for a walk together can increasingly improve your health, mood and fitness!
  • Believe in balance. You don’t always need to carve a chunk of your day or busy schedule to get in your exercise. It can be as easy as taking the stairs vs. the elevator, doing squats while watching your favorite TV show, or keeping healthy snacks in your bag to ensure you don’t go to long without eating.
  • Pay attention to your mental health. Mental health is just as important as your physical health! Take the time to stop and listen to what you, your mind and your body need today. Is it relaxing yoga or a 5 minute meditation to be present, relieve stress or refresh yourself? Well...do it!

“Besides the obvious physical aspect, incorporating exercise has a positive mental and emotional effect,” says Danielle Benyik, Personal Trainer and Owner of Body by Benyik. It gives you a feeling of power, confidence, and completion, and the endorphins that are released from your workout bring on happy, positive, and creative emotions. It's like a boomerang effect; similar to getting up in the morning and making your bed. You start or end your day with structure and formation. Training makes you stand tall, strong and proud! Training makes you walk your talk!”

So let's set our alarms, start the day off strong, eat for energy, and do SOMETHING
